Frequently asked questions
Is it expensive for a local authority?
Between €100 and €300 per month per establishment, depending on size. That's much less than a part-time employee to manage quality and compliance manually.
Is it only for canteens?
Not at all. School canteens, municipal markets, community grocery stores, farm shops, short supply chains... Any food distribution point can display verifiable product origins.
How to include it in public tenders?
Several options compatible with procurement rules: add a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) criterion weighted at 10-20%, include a verifiable traceability clause, or offer an optional variant. We provide ready-to-use clause templates.
Are local producers ready?
Some already are. We typically start with 2 or 3 volunteer producers, often organic or short-circuit. Others follow when they see it works and it's free for them.
We don't have the budget
A free pilot is possible: a few local producers and one test site for 6 months, with no commitment at all. It's a chance to measure interest before deciding.
What do citizens see?
A QR code displayed on site that they can scan with their phone. They then discover where their food comes from: the producer, the product's journey, its certifications.
Is it crypto?
No. The VRT token is simply a reward for local producers who provide their traceability data. The local authority pays in euros with completely standard invoicing.
What about food standards compliance?
In France, the EGalim law requires public canteens to serve at least 50% sustainable or quality products, including 20% organic. With VeraTrace, this compliance is proven automatically. You can export a PDF for audits and annual reports.
